2012 Record Store Day will soon be with us and you are officially forewarned Vinyl Luver readers - 21 April 2012. Write this date in your diary NOW! Its amazing how this day has taken off in recent years with events taking place all over the world and records being released just for the day. Last year I sent a text to those nearest and dearest to me urging them to visit a record store to purchase music in a physical format . Last year I headed to Red Eye Records in Sydney and purchased the Best Coast LP Crazy For You and Kylie's GET OUTTA MY WAY on 7 inch picture disc.
I received this email from Sister Ray Records in London. Now this is where I want to be on Record Store Day!
"This year there will be exclusive releases from Kate Bush, Arcade Fire, Bruce Springsteen, PiL, Coldplay, Elbow, Metallica, The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Arctic Monkeys, Black Keys, Vaccines and many many more. It’s going to be the busiest year yet so GET HERE EARLY!!
There will be in-store signing sessions with JIM KERR and CHARLIE BURCHILL from SIMPLE MINDS, an appearance from BILLY BRAGG and more super-special guests throughout the day. On top of that ST ETIENNE’s BOB STANLEY and legendary music journalist PETE PAPHIDES have agreed to work behind the counter!
All customers that purchase a Record Store Day release will be entered into a special draw to win an exclusive ‘white label’ test pressing of Jack White’s forthcoming album ‘Blunderbuss’."
I will be definitely partaking in Record Store Day activities, whether that involves a trip to Red Eye Records or another store. Once again I urge you to head out and purchase some music from your local music store. In the last year HUM Records has closed down its 2 stores in Sydney and its so important to support Music stores so they don't close. SO GO OUT AND BUY SOME MUSIC ON 21 APRIL 2012!!!!!
